The versatility of springs is evident in their widespread use across various industries and applications. From the suspension system in automobiles to the mechanisms in household appliances like washing machines and even in intricate watch movements, springs are indispensable. Their design can be customised to meet specific requirements, such as varying the coil density to change the spring constant, thereby adjusting the amount of force needed to compress or extend the spring. This adaptability makes them highly effective components for fine-tuning the mechanical properties of a system.
Depending on the application, springs come in an array of shapes, sizes, and orientations. For instance, compression springs are generally cylindrical and work under axial loads, whereas torsion springs are designed to function under a twisting, rotational force. Moreover, the material from which a spring is made can vary based on factors like required strength, corrosion resistance, and conductivity. This wide range of available materials further expands the applications for springs, allowing them to operate effectively in diverse environmental conditions, whether that's the corrosive atmosphere of a chemical plant or the high-pressure environment of a car engine.
Terrys then remained one of Europes leading spring manufactures until the late 1960’s. It was the time that followed when Terrys saw hardship, as throughout the 1970s and 1980s the company fell into receivership on several occasions and was then brought out in turn by numerous firms.
In 1990 the company was regenerated when the directors of Central Springs and Pressings embarked on a management buy out of the customised spring manufacturing division purchasing Terrys Industrial Property Rights. From this time forth the company has gone from strength to strength regaining the customer focus and quality of production which Terrys was once renown for.
Today the company is continuing its path of success building its customer base and creating new innovative spring and pressing components. In the future the directors of Central Springs and Pressings hope to maintain its reputation for excellence in both quality and customer service.
