Extension Springs

Extension springs can be supplied in all shapes and sizes and made from round, square or flat material. Extension springs are usually made from round wire, although square or rectangular wire is sometimes better adapted to special conditions.

Extension (tension) springs are highly versatile mechanical components with the unique ability to stretch and store energy, making them indispensable in various applications. They can be custom-developed to exhibit flexibility in terms of length and feature hooks or loops for fixation, allowing for tailored solutions that meet the specific needs of different industries and devices.

One of the primary characteristics that make extension springs so versatile is their adaptability to various lengths. Whether a short, tightly wound spring is needed for a compact appliance or a longer, more extended spring for a larger piece of machinery, extension springs can be designed to the required length. This flexibility in design ensures that the spring can provide the desired tension and force while fitting precisely within the designated space.

Furthermore, extension springs can be equipped with hooks or loops at both ends, making them ideal for applications where secure attachment is necessary. These hooks or loops provide a means of fixation, allowing the spring to be easily connected to other components within a system. This feature is especially valuable in return spring applications, such as doors or lids that need to be closed securely when not in use. The hooks or loops enable the spring to be attached to the door and its frame, ensuring that it functions as a reliable return mechanism, closing the door automatically when released.

Looking for pricing?

If you're in search of pricing information, you're in the right place. We understand that pricing is a crucial aspect of your decision-making process, and we're here to provide you with the information you need to make informed choices.

Diameter

Give the outside, inside or mean diameter. If the spring works in a hole, tube, cylinder or socket, mention this fact and state the size of the opening through which the spring must pass.

Length

In stating the length of an extension spring, always specify whether the length given is for the coiled part or body or the length overall including the hooks or loops on the ends. The length should be specified as the coiled part (or body Length) or as the over all length; distance from centre to centre of hooks or loops or distance from inside to inside of hooks or loops

Size and Shape of Material

Specify whether spring is made of round, square or flat material and give size of material in fractional or decimal parts of an inch/ millimetre. If the spring has to give a certain load at a certain extension, and for this reason the size of the material is unknown, we would refer you to the technical data section, where you will see the method of obtaining this information; paying special attention to the notes on Initial Tension.

Material

State if steel, brass or phosphor bronze, springs can be made from the regular carbon steels and from chrome vanadium, silico-maganese and other alloy steels.

Style of Ends

We would refer you to this section of the web site to view various types of ends for extension springs; special ends can also be supplied. Please send sketch showing type required.
